Puppetry had started in India for story telling purposes. Later it became an effective form of communication and entertainment for the rural folk. Basically the puppets are tied with strings which are maneuvered by humans. There are also shadow puppets with limbs attached loosely to give them a movement. The latest creation is of rod puppets or stick puppets which originated in the West.
