Microprocessor

Microprocessors are the main functioning units of the computer. It controls all the internal activities of the computer. It performs logical and arithmetical operations internally and helps in reading and writing externally. The microprocessor can perform functions like addition, subtraction, comparison of two numbers and fetches numbers from one area to the other. When you turn on your computer the microprocessor gets the first set of instructions from the central input/output system or BIOS. Thereafter the BIOS or the operating system that is loaded by BIOS into the computer memory drives the microprocessor to perform as per the instructions given.

Software piracy is the illegal use and distribution of software that are used for commercial purposes. This is a criminal offence and invokes punishment.

Encoding and decoding

In computers encoding means the process of placing a series of characters in a special arrangement for the purpose of storage or transmission. Decoding is just the reverse where the encoded format is converted back to a series of characters.

Some of the different types of operating systems are the GUI or Graphical User Interface that contains icons and graphics, multi-user where one computer can be operated by multiple users, multiprocessing which uses and supports more than one computer processor, multitasking that allows multiple programs to run at the same time and multi-threading that allows running of the different parts of a software program at the same time.

Hard Disk

All your information is permanently stored in the hard disk. The hard disks have lot of storage space which is referred to as bytes. The hard disk is stored inside the processing unit. When the space in your hard disk is filled it gives you an alert which if unheeded will not function in the manner it is supposed to or may even lead to crashing and permanent destruction of your data.

RAM

RAM is Random Access Memory. There is lot of information stored in your computer which you do not use it altogether. But when you are using only a portion of information it gets temporarily stored in the RAM due to which you can retrieve your information in the fastest time possible. The RAM works as long as your computer is running. Once the power is put off all the information disappears from the RAM.
